EMDR Therapy

Evidence-Based Support for Healing, Clarity, and Emotional Relief

Difficult experiences, whether recent or from the past, can stay with us in ways we don’t always expect. You may feel stuck in old patterns, overwhelmed by emotions, or weighed down by memories that still feel vivid. Even when you’re doing your best, certain reactions or thoughts may feel hard to change.

You don’t have to work through these experiences alone. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) offers a structured, research-backed method for processing distressing memories, reducing emotional intensity, and supporting long-term healing.

Using EMDR, we move at your pace. Together, we create space to understand what feels painful or stuck, build grounding skills, and support your nervous system in finding more balance, stability, and clarity.

Together, we may focus on:

  • Building grounding and emotional stability

  • Processing painful or distressing memories as you feel ready

  • Reducing anxiety, emotional reactivity, and triggers

  • Shifting unhelpful beliefs that may be holding you back

  • Strengthening resilience and inner steadiness

EMDR creates room for relief, growth, and a renewed sense of self.

How EMDR Helps With Trauma & Distress

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) supports the brain’s natural ability to heal by helping you safely process experiences that feel overwhelming, confusing, or unresolved. Research shows that EMDR is an evidence-based therapy effective for trauma, anxiety, and other distressing experiences. The approach uses structured bilateral stimulation (often eye movements, taps, or sounds) while recalling difficult memories, which helps your brain reprocess them so they lose their intensity.

EMDR may help with:

  • Single-incident or ongoing trauma

  • Anxiety, panic, or chronic worry

  • Negative self-beliefs or self-esteem struggles

  • Childhood or attachment-related wounds

  • Stress, overwhelm, or emotional reactivity

  • Grief and loss

  • Moments where you feel stuck or unable to move forward

  • Memories that continue to feel “too close” or activating

EMDR doesn’t erase your memories; rather, it reduces their emotional weight so you can move forward with greater ease, relief, and emotional balance.

What Trauma & Emotional Distress Can Look Like

Everyone’s experience is different, but you may notice:

  • Feeling triggered or overwhelmed by reminders of the past

  • Difficulty regulating emotions

  • Avoiding certain situations or conversations

  • Feeling numb, disconnected, or “shut down”

  • Trouble sleeping or concentrating

  • Persistent worry or tension

  • Feeling stuck in patterns you can’t explain

  • A sense that something from the past still affects the present

If any of this resonates, EMDR may offer a path toward relief and healing.

My Approach to EMDR Therapy

My therapeutic style is warm, steady, and grounded in trauma-informed care. I support you with curiosity, collaboration, and a deep respect for your pace and capacity. There is no rushing, pushing, or pressure. It’s important to me that you have a voice and a sense of control throughout the process.

Together, we will:

  • Build grounding and coping skills before beginning EMDR

  • Identify experiences, beliefs, or patterns that feel painful or stuck

  • Process memories using bilateral stimulation (often eye movements, taps, or sounds)

  • Reduce distress connected to past events

  • Strengthen positive beliefs about yourself, your worth, and your capacity

  • Support long-term emotional regulation and resilience

EMDR fits within a flexible, person-centered approach that incorporates CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed practices as needed. Not every client with trauma needs EMDR, and EMDR can be helpful even when trauma isn’t the primary concern. We get to decide together what fits your goals.
