Hi, I’m Erica! I’m glad you are here.
One of my favorite ways to experience the world is through stories and new adventures. I love learning from the people I meet, the places I explore, and the clients I have the privilege to work with in therapy. Curiosity and a sense of discovery have always guided me.
That excitement for experience taken many forms over the years: riding horses, skiing and snowboarding, scuba diving, traveling, and learning to mush with a small team of retired sled dogs (which inspired the name On By). These days, my adventures include my two little kids who keep me on my toes, our pup who’s always ready for a walk, and sharing the things I love with my daughters. I also treasure quieter moments, like curling up with a good book, being outdoors, or enjoying a meal with people I care about.
I bring this same curiosity, warmth, and openness into my work as a therapist in the Fargo–Moorhead community. Life is full of stories, and I’m honored every time someone trusts me with theirs. Therapy with me is genuine and human. There’s space for the hard things, the breakthroughs, and the humor that helps us breathe through it all. People often describe me as kind, grounded, and supportive, and I’m grateful every day to witness the growth my clients experience.

Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) – North Dakota
Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC)
Certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Board-Certified TeleMental Health Provider (BC-TMH)
With over 12 years of counseling experience, I have supported adults in college and community settings through life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, and periods of feeling stuck. My experience includes helping clients navigate major life changes and mental health challenges, crisis intervention, academic and career support, and group facilitation.
Beyond clinical counseling, I teach graduate and undergraduate courses in mental health and counseling, supervise emerging clinicians, and engage in ongoing professional development to provide support that is evidence-informed, practical, and client-centered. I combine academic expertise with real-world clinical experience to offer guidance that is compassionate, strengths-focused, and results-oriented.
Therapeutic Approach
I take a collaborative, flexible approach to counseling, tailoring sessions to meet your unique needs, goals, and experiences. My work is guided by the belief that everyone has the capacity to heal, grow, and move forward with clarity and intention. I notice what’s working, celebrate progress, and focus on building strengths, helping you navigate challenges in a meaningful way.
I draw on evidence-informed therapies, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – for managing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors
EMDR Therapy – for processing traumatic experiences and reducing their impact
Trauma-Informed Care – ensuring safety, validation, and empowerment
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – for building emotional regulation, mindfulness, and coping skills
Together, we explore patterns in your thoughts and behaviors, build practical skills for managing emotions and relationships, and create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard. When trauma or difficult experiences are part of your story, EMDR may be incorporated to help your brain process and release their impact, promoting healing and increasing a sense of safety and control.
I support adults through life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, and periods of feeling stuck, providing therapy that is strengths-based, client-centered, and evidence-informed. Sessions are offered in-person in Fargo, ND, and via secure telehealth across North Dakota and Minnesota.
Philosophy & Values
I notice what’s working, celebrate progress, and focus on building strengths. My work is guided by the belief that everyone has the capacity to heal, grow, and move forward with clarity and intention.
I believe therapy is most effective when it’s grounded in authenticity, respect, and inclusivity. Everyone deserves a safe, supportive space to explore their experiences, and I am committed to honoring each person’s identity, background, and perspective.
I approach my work with self-awareness and recognition of my own privileges, using that understanding to provide compassionate, nonjudgmental support. My goal is to help you feel seen, affirmed, and empowered as you navigate life’s challenges.
Being inclusive isn’t just a professional principle. It’s a value I carry into all areas of my life. I strive to create a space where people of all identities feel welcomed and understood, and where your unique story is valued as we work together.
